Finding Humanity Through Storytelling: An Interview with Author Michael Colon on SYJTS Podcast Show

On a recent episode of Surviving Your Journey Towards Success, I had the pleasure of welcoming Michael Colon, a New York City–born author and storyteller whose work captures the emotional depth of the human experience. Michael shared his inspiring journey from his working-class roots to becoming a published author, using writing as both a means of self-discovery and empowerment. Known for his heartfelt and imaginative storytelling, Michael has written two books with TWB PressThe Gift from Aelius, a philosophical sci-fi exploration of existence, faith, and humanity, and The Greatest Comic Book Tale Ever Told, a coming-of-age story that blends reality and imagination to explore trauma, resilience, and the power of dreams. His stories resonate deeply with readers who seek authenticity, hope, and emotional truth.

Both works have resonated deeply with readers who seek authenticity, emotional depth, and stories that reflect the human experience.

During our conversation, Michael opened up about how storytelling became his way of processing life’s challenges and finding meaning in moments of uncertainty. He spoke about growing up in New York City, surrounded by the energy and complexity of urban life, and how those early experiences shaped his creative voice. Writing, for him, was not just a craft but a lifeline—a way to explore identity, purpose, and the emotional truths that connect us all.

We discussed his book The Gift from Aelius, where he uses science fiction as a lens to examine faith, consciousness, and what it means to be human in an age of technology. Michael shared how the story’s central AI character, A191, mirrors our own search for understanding and belonging. In contrast, The Greatest Comic Book Tale Ever Told draws from personal emotion and imagination, weaving a narrative about resilience, trauma, and the healing power of creativity.

Throughout the interview, Michael’s authenticity and passion for storytelling shone through. His words reminded listeners that success is not only about achievement but also about growth, reflection, and the courage to tell one’s truth. His journey is a testament to how art can transform pain into purpose and inspire others to do the same.
